Rather than replacing what was already there, Grassmere Residence focused on reimagining a familiar home for a new chapter—bringing renewed functionality, clarity, and warmth to everyday living while preserving the comfort and memories built over decades.

Project Overview

Grassmere Residence is a 2,500-square-foot residential renovation in Burnaby that transformed a 40-year-old house into a bright, functional, and contemporary family home. The project was recognized as the finalist in the 2021 HAVAN Awards for Housing Excellence.

The renovation was driven by a desire to adapt an aging home to the evolving needs of modern family life. Rather than expanding the house, the design focused on improving functionality, increasing storage, and creating flexible spaces that better support everyday routines.

At the heart of the transformation is a reimagined kitchen that combines efficient organization with a clean and uncluttered aesthetic. Integrated storage solutions, built-in appliances, and a concealed walk-in pantry help simplify daily living while maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The family room was redesigned as a flexible multi-purpose space that supports work, study, music, and family activities. By balancing openness with functionality, the design allows the space to adapt to changing needs throughout the day while remaining comfortable and inviting.

More than a cosmetic renovation, the project focused on helping an existing home evolve alongside the family who lives there. The result is a home that feels both familiar and renewed—ready to support a new chapter of everyday life.
